Hockenheim IDM 2025

🇩🇪 Am vergangenen Rennwochenende fand der finale Lauf der IDM-Superbike und somit unser Wildcard bei der IDM statt.

Die Woche zuvor waren wir noch zwei Tage in Most um einige Neuerungen und Entwicklungen zu testen und somit für das Rennwochenende Zeit zu sparen. Dies hat super funktioniert und wir konnten trotz heißer Bedingungen in Most einen super Test absolvieren. ✅

Für dieses Wochenende brachte Pirelli die neuen Entwicklungsreifen, die wir vorher bereits in Brünn bei der Alpe Adria testen konnten. Für mich hat der Reifen in Vergangenheit super funktioniert und wir hatten einige guten Daten.

Freitag: Am Freitag fanden die freien Trainings statt, wir hatten viel kältere Bedingungen als die Tage vorher. Das erste Training war komplett Nass, da es bis in die Nacht geregnet hat. Das zweite Training war das erste mal, dass wir mit Slicks auf die Strecke konnten, trotz vieler nasser Flecken. In den ersten Runden merkte ich bereits, dass sich das Motorrad komplett anders verhielt wie sonst. Für uns war es das aller erste mal, dass wir mit unserer Honda bei richtig kalten Verhältnissen unterwegs waren. 🥶

Für das Superpole Pre Practice, also das letzte Training vom Freitag, hatten wir erneut Änderungen gemacht und konnten die Lücke nach vorne etwas verringern, jedoch waren wir trotzdem nicht schnell genug und hatten immer noch mit ähnlichen Problemen extrem zu kämpfen.

Samstag: Das FP3 am Samstag morgen war komplett nass, was es für uns erneut unmöglich machte etwas zu testen um unsere Probleme zu lösen. Das Quali war erneut unter halb / halb Bedingungen gestartet, es gab eine minimale trockene Linie, die während des QP weiter auftrocknete. Wir konnten uns leider nur auf P15 qualifizieren. Unsere Probleme waren immer noch ähnlich wie am Freitag und ich selbst fand fahrerisch keinen Weg um den Rückstand etwas zu verringern.

Sonntag: Im Warmup hatten wir endlich für 10 Minuten trockene Verhältnisse und konnten erneut etwas testen.

Das Rennen verlief jedoch ganz anders als geplant. Meine ersten beiden Runden waren gut und ich konnte mich an die Gruppe vor mir klemmen und folgen. Ich versuchte so sauber wie es nur ging zu fahren und vor allem unsere Probleme so gut es ging zu umfahren. Nach ein paar Runden passierte mir in Kurve 1 beim runterschalten ein kleiner Fehler und die Lücke nach vorne ging etwas auf. Ich versuchte direkt den Anschluss wieder zu finden aber machte in der Sachskurve über die Bodenwelle einen kleinen Fehler und musste zu Boden gehen. Das Motorrad und ich flogen bis in die Airfence, das Rennen musste deshalb abgebrochen werden.

Das zweite Rennen konnten wir leider nicht mehr starten. Für uns ein Wochenende, das keinerlei Potenzial von uns wiederspiegelt, nicht Ansatzweise zeigt wieviel Arbeit wir seit April in dieses Projekt gesteckt haben und nicht zeigt wieviele Tage und Nächte wir investiert haben. Wir hatten bis hier eine grandiose Saison mit super Ergebnissen und super Rundenzeiten, jedoch konnten wir es überhaupt nicht in das Hockenheim Wochenende transferieren.

Für uns beginnt bereits die Vorbereitung für die Winter und Testsaison, in der wir jegliche positiven und negativen Sachen dieser Saison aufarbeiten werden. Mein eigener OP Termin steht bald an, bei dem ich den Ermüdungsbruch in meinem Sprunggelenk reparieren lassen werde, den ich mir vor ca. 2 Monaten beim Sport zugezogen habe.

🇬🇧 Last race weekend saw the final round of the IDM Superbike, and thus our wildcard entry into the IDM.

The week before, we spent two days in Most to test some new developments and thus save time for the race weekend. This worked out really well, and we were able to complete a fantastic test despite the hot conditions in Most. ✅

For this weekend, Pirelli brought the new development tires, which we had previously tested in Brno at the Alpe Adria. The tire has worked really well for me in the past, and we had some good data.

Friday: Free practice took place on Friday, and we had much colder conditions than the previous days. The first practice session was completely wet, as it rained until late into the night. The second practice session was the first time we were able to use slicks on the track, despite many wet patches. In the first few laps, I noticed that the bike behaved completely differently than usual. It was the very first time we'd ridden our Honda in really cold conditions. 🥶

For the Superpole Pre-Practice, the final practice session on Friday, we made further changes and were able to close the gap slightly, but we still weren't fast enough and were still struggling with similar issues.

Saturday: FP3 on Saturday morning was completely wet, which again made it impossible for us to test anything to solve our problems. Qualifying again started in half-and-half conditions, with a minimal dry line that continued to dry out during QP. Unfortunately, we could only qualify in 15th place. Our problems were still similar to Friday, and I couldn't find a way to reduce the gap.

Sunday: During the warm-up, we finally had dry conditions for 10 minutes and were able to test something again.

The race, however, went completely differently than planned. My first two laps were good, and I was able to hang onto the group in front of me and follow them. I tried to ride as cleanly as possible and, above all, to avoid our problems as best I could. After a few laps, I made a small mistake while downshifting in Turn 1, and the gap to the front opened up a bit. I immediately tried to catch up, but I made a small mistake over the bump in Sachskurve and crashed. The bike and I flew into the air fence, so the race had to be stopped.

Unfortunately, we were unable to start the second race. For us, it was a weekend that didn't reflect our potential at all, didn't even begin to show how much work we've put into this project since April, and didn't show how many days and nights we've invested. We've had a fantastic season so far with great results and great lap times, but we haven't been able to transfer that into the Hockenheim weekend at all.

We're already starting preparations for the winter and test season, where we'll work through all the positives and negatives of this season. My own surgery appointment is coming up soon, where I'll have the stress fracture in my ankle repaired, which I sustained while playing sports about two months ago.
